Two people are dead after a gravel truck and a car collided with one another east of Edmonton on Wednesday, according to RCMP.
Emergency crews responded to a crash on Highway 21 near Township Road 534 at 3:12 p.m.
According to a Thursday news release, the RCMP preliminary investigation shows a vehicle was crossing Highway 21 when it was struck by a southbound gravel truck.
A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, Alberta Health Services told Global News Wednesday night.
The 73-year-old driver of the vehicle crossing the highway was taken to hospital but died of his injuries, police said Thursday. The other man killed was a passenger in that vehicle, police said.
Strathcona County RCMP reduced southbound Highway 21 to one lane near the scene and asked drivers to avoid the area as officers investigate what happened.

The driver of the gravel truck was not injured, police said.
The identity of the two victims will not be released and police said no further updated are expected.
