Decision Calgary: Ward 13 candidates

Ward 13 is in the city’s far southwest and includes the communities of Bridlewood, Canyon Meadows, Evergreen, Millrise, Shawnee Slopes, Shawnessy, Somerset, Woodbine and Woodlands.

It is home to part of Fish Creek Park and borders the Tsuu T’ina Reserve to the west.

FAST FACT: Even though the ward has the fewest communities of any ward, it has one of the largest populations.

Current Councillor: Diane Colley-Urquhart is seeking her sixth term.

THE CANDIDATES

DIANE COLLEY-URQUHART was first elected in a byelection in 2000 after spending nearly 40 years as a registered nurse. During her time on council has been a strong advocate for city police and is a member of the Calgary Police Commission. She has also chaired the STOP Marihuana GROW-OP Coalition. Colley-Urquhart describes herself as a fiscal conservative with a “common sense” style of leadership.  She was a vocal opponent of the Peace Bridge.
