Gallery: Best space hair

It's recess time for a floating astronaut Karen Nyberg, Expedition 36 flight engineer, in the Unity node aboard the International Space Station. NASA

With her mission currently underway on the International Space Station, NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg is bringing back a fad that we’ve missed over the course of the last few ISS missions.

Epic space hair.

While Chris Hadfield taught the world some amazing “did you know this happens in space” facts, his coiffure was a bit too short to capture the imagination like Nyberg’s flowing locks.

We take a look at a sample of the best hair moments in space.

NASA astronaut Karen Nyberg, Expedition 36 flight engineer, speaks into a microphone in the International Space Station’s Quest airlock while the crew prepares for a July 9 session of extravehicular activity (EVA) with NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy and European Space Agency astronaut Luca Parmitano, both flight engineers. While Nyberg is clearly in the lead, her ISS counterparts also entered the hair space race, by showing us how to cut hair while aboard the ISS.

Sure Hadfield’s hair doesn’t have much distance to travel in a zero gravity environment, but look at that moustache. Working it.

It’s all about the moustache. (NASA). NASA

The astronauts have also taken to YouTube to show everything from how to wash your hair in space, to getting a trim with a vacuum, to shaving it all off.
