10th Annual Youth Gathering held on Blood Reserve

First nations youth walk in a colorful parade on the Blood Reserve, bringing awareness to violence against women during the 10th Annual Youth Gathering.

First nations youth from around Canada met on the blood reserve to take part in the 10th annual youth gathering.

Seminars about culture, tradition and leadership are put on over the week long event.

This year, the conference is also bringing awareness to violence against women.

A colorful parade of youth and dignitaries lined the highway in front of the Kainai Middle School, demonstrating the importance of aboriginal youth and issues facing the next generation.
“Over the years our young people have had to deal with a lot and this is giving us a chance to help them mold who they become,” says Charlie Fox, one of the event coordinators.

The Blood Tribe has experienced it’s own loss and violence against women, and are honored to hold this event.  The Blood Reserve hosted the event three years ago, and says this year is going to be bigger and better with nearly 400 kids taking part.

This event brings the next generation together with the guidance of band elders, taking one step at a time to improve the future for all aboriginal people.
