Winnipeg man moves into wind-powered “Eco cabin”

A Winnipeg man is braving the cold winter weather and setting up shop in an “eco cabin” at Red River Exhibition Park for the week.

Vince Ceccarelli, a self-described “enthusiastic Global Wind Group Inc. employee” has moved into the new digs as part of his company’s entry into the ZüS Power Challenge, attempting to prove that there is enough energy produced by one of their modular power systems to make an 8-foot by 16-foot cabin livable in the middle of an “extreme Winnipeg winter.”

While living in the off-grid cabin, Ceccarelli plans to cook, read and share his experiences with the public through a live streaming webcam, blog, Twitter and Facebook.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of The Challenge I encourage all viewers to stay connected to see how things are going and who’s dropping by,” Ceccarelli wrote in a recent blog post, “I’ll have lots of people from the local business community, media, and government coming by to say hi and chat. If you have any questions, comments or would like to chat with me (I could use the interaction…) please do not hesitate to drop me a line on Twitter, Skype, Facebook or the BLOG.”

The project started Monday, Mar. 21, and will run until Monday, Mar. 28. To view Ceccarelli’s progress online, visit the ZüS website.
