There has been no shortage of reaction following Zdeno Chara’s brutal hit on Max Pacioretty during the Boston Bruins – Montreal Canadiens NHL game on Tuesday night, and now NHL players are throwing in their two cents on Twitter.
“Saw the hit on Max Pacioretty,” tweeted Phoenix Coyotes Paul Bissonnette. “That looked awful. Is he OK? Any word on him? Hope he’s alright.”
Fellow Canadien Michael Cammalleri, along with many other NHL players, sent his best wishes out to Pacioretty. “To all the fans who have asked to pass there thoughts on to Patch. Thank You. We will,” tweeted Cammalleri.
Chara hit Montreal’s Pacioretty during a chase for the puck, sending the Canadien head-first into a stanchion that divides the players’ benches.
Pacioretty lay motionless on the ice and was carried off on a stretcher. The force of the blow resulted in a severe concussion and fractured vertebrae.
Stomach-turning images of the hit are being played repeatedly on network television and online, as analysts and fans alike argue over possible intent behind the hit, and what punishment should follow.
