Toronto police say a man has been arrested and a woman has been found safe after a suspected kidnapping in the downtown area.
Police said in a statement that the incident occurred on Monday morning after it was reported a woman overdosed near Sherbourne Street and Dundas Street East.
Officers said the woman was unconscious and was subsequently put into a car by a man despite people nearby challenging the man regarding the woman’s safety.
Police said the man indicated he would take her to a hospital, but the woman wasn’t admitted into any Toronto hospitals.
The statement said officer later located the vehicle and a suspect, but the woman — 33-year-old Amber Johnson — was missing.
In an update released Monday evening, a Toronto police spokesperson said she was found in “good health.” The spokesperson said he couldn’t comment on the relationship between the woman and the man, or where she was found. The investigation is still ongoing.
Fifty-one-year-old Toronto resident James Felfoldi was charged with kidnapping and failing to comply with parole.
