A man is dead after a “double shooting” on the Red Hill Valley Parkway (RHVP), according to Hamilton police.
Investigators believe the shooting happened just after 9 p.m. on Friday night and involved two vehicles travelling south on the parkway.
Police say both vehicles were in motion when shots were fired out of one of the vehicles — a dark coloured SUV — into a second vehicle — a blue BMW sedan.
“Two individuals were struck by the gunshots that resulted in serious injuries to one occupant and the death of 27-year-old Matar Abouchere,” detectives said in a release on Saturday morning. “Matar was driving the vehicle at the time of the shooting and was able to bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder of the roadway.”
Investigators say the suspect SUV fled the scene leaving the parkway at Greenhill Avenue.
The car driven by Abouchere entered onto the RHVP from the Barton Street East westbound lanes, say police.
Detective says the shooting was targeted and have yet to establish the motive behind Abouchere’s murder.
Hamilton police are appealing to the public and asking anyone who may have been travelling near Barton Street East, the RHVP or the area of Greenhill Avenue around 9 p.m. Friday to contact police and share information, or any dashcam or security video.
