Three people arrested, teen recovering in hospital, after shooting in central Hamilton

Hamilton police say three people are facing charges after a shooting Thursday night left a teenager in hospital.

Officers were called to a laneway near Barton Street East and Birch Avenue for a reported shooting just before 9 p.m. Thursday.

According to police, the victim, who was shot in the leg, was found a couple of blocks away at Stirton Street and Cannon Street East with two of his friends.

The teenager is recovering in hospital with what is being described as non-life threatening injuries.

Police say they later identified three other males believed to have been involved in the incident, and say they were taken into police custody.

A 22-year-old man and two 16-year-old boys are now facing charges unrelated to the incident.

The charges include possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of weapons dangerous to the public peace, and failing to comply with a release order.

Police say the victim is not cooperating with investigators.
