Toronto police say a man in his 20s who reportedly fell down the Scarborough Bluffs escarpment on Wednesday morning has been rescued by emergency crews.
Toronto Fire District Chief Bryce McDonald said people passing through the Bluffs heard someone yelling for help and called 911 at around 6:30 a.m.
McDonald said the man had been on the cliff since about 2 a.m. and was trapped about 25 feet down the escarpment under some vegetation.
“We set up a full, high-end rescue with approximately 20 personnel and it took us about an hour but we were able to bring him up successfully,” McDonald told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.
McDonald said the man suffered some minor injuries, including an injury to his leg, which was trapped.
“He was hanging onto a tree down there,” McDonald said, adding that the man did not have a cellphone on him to call for help.
McDonald said people end up on the wrong side of the Bluffs frequently and that officials are trying to educate the public to exercise caution and follow signage when in the area.
“Please stay away from the Bluffs and don’t climb them, don’t go to the edge,” McDonald said.
At around 8:30 a.m., police said the man was rescued from the cliff, and Toronto paramedics were on scene to assess the man’s injuries.
