Garbage trucks equipped with cameras are watching what you’re throwing away – and residents caught mixing things like electronics and cardboard will face a warning from the city and may pay a fine of $100.
Garbage trucks in four cities – Kelowna, West Kelowna, Peachland, Lake Country, and the Regional Electoral Area – are already hooked up with the garbage spotting cameras.
While officials say this technology will work alongside waste collection programs that are continually plagued with contamination issues, some residents feel it’s a violation of their privacy.
