Heavy rains and dark clouds were not enough to keep runners from participating in the 16th annual BMO Okanagan Marathon in Kelowna on Sunday.
About 3,400 runners converged on Kelowna’s City Park for the 42.2 km marathon, 21.1 km half-marathon and 10 km walk and run.
Unofficial results of the race show Jack Cook of Edmonton was the men’s marathon winner, finishing the race in 2:39:16.
The results also show Keddi-Anne Siterbino of Kelowna was the women’s marathon winner with 3:00:05.
Many runners said the race’s new flat track in downtown and the Mission was expected to be less stressful on their bodies and expected it to improve their finish times.
Some runners hoped to use their finish times in the marathon as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.
