DeLaet gives back to junior golf with tournament

SASKATOON – Graham DeLaet grew up in the same boat as most junior golfers in Saskatchewan, now he’s the golfer kids want to grow up to be.

Raising awareness and funds for junior golf in Saskatchewan is one of the ways he’s giving back.

DeLaet doesn’t get too many opportunities to make it home and when he does, he draws a crowd.

Golf enthusiasts travelled from around the province to catch a glimpse and learn some tips from the top ranked Canadian golfer.

Through all the success he’s had so far in his golf career, the Weyburn product hasn’t forgotten about his roots. He was in Saskatoon for the inaugural Graham DeLaet golf tournament supporting junior golf in Saskatchewan.

“We just want to get kids playing more and more and the more kids that are playing the better for the sport,” said DeLaet.

Thirty-six teams teed off in the “Saskatchewan” scramble Thursday and DeLaet himself also played.

“When you have a gentleman like Graham coming back and people want to get around him, they have been following his career for a number of years from the Sunshine Tours to the Canadian Tours and obviously now on the PGA.

The proceeds from the tournament will go towards junior golf in Saskatchewan with a portion assisting the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation.
