REGINA – If you’ve spent any time outside this won’t come as a surprise but the city of Regina has seen a surge in the mosquito population.
Last week, the number of mosquitoes caught by city crews was 14 times higher than the week before.

The 10 year average is about 450 mosquitoes, but after the rain and heat, the population has spiked way beyond that.
“In our 10 traps that we have scattered throughout the city we collected around 50 mosquitoes in that week in all those traps- but last week rose dramatically, we’re looking at approximately 700 trapped in that week period,” said Ray Morgan who is pest control for the city of Regina.
So far, no traps in Regina have found culex tarsalis mosquitoes, known to carry west nile virus. The city expects some may be found in traps soon.
