TORONTO – Passengers who were stranded for hours on a Richmond Hill commuter train due to flooded tracks on Monday will be given a $100 credit, according to GO Transit.
The credit will be applied to their Presto fare card and those who were travelling with paper tickets can redeem them for a $100 card.
GO Transit says the credit is compensation for passengers to cover any dry cleaning or other out of pocket expenses as a result of the incident.
More than 1,400 people had to be rescued by boat from a GO Train after being stuck for nearly seven hours in flood waters shortly after leaving Union Station.
The Greater Toronto Area received a record 126 millimetres of rain, setting an all-time one-day rainfall record.
Many highways and city streets in the city and surrounding communities were also flooded during the evening hours.
