You can’t blame some Montrealers if they groaned when they looked out the window Thursday morning.

Still digging out from a snowstorm earlier in the week, Mother Nature struck again beginning late Wednesday night and snow was still falling Thursday.

Snowfall and rainfall warnings are in effect with blowing snow expected to change to rain midday – surely to make for a slippery commute home at the end of the work day.

It’s made Montreal streets and sidewalks a slushy mess and slowed the morning commute for those heading to work and school.

A freezing rain warning is also in effect for late morning, and rain is expected to continue Thursday evening and overnight.

Up to 20 millimetres of rain could fall as the temperature climbs to a high of 5 degrees Celsius by Friday morning.

Montreal’s Vanguard School and West Island college were closed for the day but the English Montreal School Board, the Commission scolaire de Montreal and the Commission scolaire de Laval are open.

Montreal police Constable Olivier Lapointe said there have been no major accidents despite the conditions.

"We’re lucky so far," he said. "It’s really slippery so we’re asking people to control their speed and drive carefully."
