The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, police were in the area of Markham Road and Nugget Avenue when they saw a Nissan Rogue travelling at high rate of speed southbound on Markham Road.

Officers then followed the vehicle, the SIU said.

The Nissan Rogue then crashed into a Ford Escape which then hit a Honda Civic at Markham Road and Sheppard Avenue East, the SIU said.

Toronto paramedics told Global News they transported five people to hospital. The SIU said two women in the Ford Escape, a 52-year-old driver and 21-year-old passenger, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
