Sask. to get second area code as early as 2014

Saskatchewan will soon be getting a second area code, and it will happen earlier than originally expected.

Since 1947, the province has used one single area code – 306. Due to increasing demands for phone numbers, Saskatchewan could see another area code as early as 2014.

The need for another area code means the province is catching up with much of the country. Manitoba will begin using a second area code in 2013, leaving Saskatchewan as the only non-Maritime province to have just one.
