WINNIPEG – The city known as Winterpeg embraced the cold again last year and was crowned Slurpee capital of the world for the 14th consecutive year.
The prize is awarded on the basis of how many Slurpees are sold per 7-Eleven store in a region. According to Slurpee.ca, there are 43 7-Elevens in Winnipeg.

Although 7-Eleven didn’t say how many Slurpees were sold at Winnipeg stores, an average of 8,300 Slurpees per store are sold each month in Manitoba.
That means the city where the past winter started in November and didn’t end until April has the world’s biggest Slurpee habit, although Calgary and Detroit are apparently close challengers.

As a thank you to its customers, 7-Eleven is giving away free Slurpees on Thursday. Each location in Canada will give away 1,500 drinks on a first-come, first-served basis.
