CALGARY – A Canadian Forces skydiver was taken to hospital after a hard landing during a show at the Calgary Stampede over the weekend.
EMS were called to the grandstand area on the Stampede grounds around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Officials say the man, believed to be in his 30s, had just performed a manoeuvre with four other team members after the singing of O Canada.
The manoeuvre went according to plan, and the diver landed where he was supposed to but hit the ground fast.
At first, his injuries were said to be life-threatening.
However, officials now say the skydiver has a broken leg and his condition has been upgraded to stable.
According to a spokesperson from SkyHawks, the man was conscious and speaking, even cracking jokes, before being taken to Foothills Hospital.
SkyHawks is the Canadian Forces Parachute Demonstration Team. They are doing a number of performances at the Stampede this year.
