Unemployment drops, employment increases in Saskatchewan

SASKATOON – The number of people unemployed in Saskatchewan dropped in June.

Statistics Canada reported Friday the unemployment rate for the month dropped 0.8 percentage points to 3.7 per cent, the lowest in the country.

The national unemployment rate was unchanged at 7.1 per cent.

Employment in the province was up by 4,300 in June, a year-over-year increase of 3.6 per cent, the strongest growth rate in Canada.

The increase follows four months of little change.

Regina had the lowest unemployment rate for Canadian cities at 3.7 per cent, up 0.1 percentage points from May.

In Saskatoon, the unemployment rate held steady at 3.9 per cent, the second lowest among cities in Canada.
