Closing arguments wrapped up Friday in the case against Dr. Edward Poon, who is facing six charges of sexual assault.
His defense, led by lawyer Aaron Fox, questioned the reliability of Dr. Poon’s six accusers. Fox pointed out that several of the women were nervous before and during the exam, and that nerves may have affected their perception at the time.
The defense also argued that many of the doctor’s tactics were normal, and even textbook.
“He felt what he did was right, and he still does,” Fox said, who explained the crown did not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Poon did what is he accused of.
Six of his patients allege Dr. Poon is did not perform proper exams, and touched them inappropriately.
Fox pointed out that none of the accusers asked Poon why his hand was somewhere where they did not believe it should be.
Crown prosecutor Connie Hottinger, during her closing statement, explained that at least one witness asked “Who questions their doctor?”
“The majority of what went on was not a medical exam, it was a sexual assault,” Hottinger summed up.
The jury has lots of evidence to go through, including hours of testimony from complainants, an expert witness and Dr. Poon himself.
The judge is expected to instruct and charge the jury on Monday morning.
