One woman is dead, another seriously injured following Markham crash

TORONTO – One of two female pedestrians struck by a car in Markham has died from her injuries.

York Regional Police confirmed one of the women had passed away Thursday night.

Another woman remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The incident happened near Elson Road and Markham Road just north of Steeles Avenue.

Police, Fire Services and EMS workers arrived on the scene just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving multiple reports of an automobile accident involving pedestrians.

York Regional Police Seargeant John Koshandish says the accident was the result of of a two-vehicle collision.

After the initial impact, one of the vehicles involved veered off the road and struck the two women.

At this time, Markham Road North of Steeles Avenue East is closed between Elson and Dennison due to the ongoing investigation.
