Bicycle cop hit by driver talking on cell phone

SASKATOON – A driver has been ticketed after he hit a police bicycle officer this morning in downtown Saskatoon.

The officer was on 2nd Avenue between 19th and 20th Streets when he saw a northbound motorist talking on his cell phone around 10:15 a.m.

He pursued the driver for about a block-and-a-half before being struck when the driver made a right-hand turn into an alley in the 100-block of 2nd Avenue.

The officer received minor injuries.

The 34-year-old driver was given a ticket for using a cell phone while driving and another for driving without due care and attention.
