Ex-MD guilty in kid-porn case

It’s a lenient sentence in a high profile child pornography case where investigators admit they didn’t do their job fast enough.

Yesterday former Blue Bomber President and prominent doctor, Ross Brown, was sentenced to 45 days in jail for possessing nearly five thousand images of child pornography. Prosecutors and Brown’s lawyer say a two-year delay in obtaining evidence from police forced the crown to settle.

Winnipeg Police Inspector Bill Fogg said “we failed to deliver on our own timeline on a couple of occasions and that did put the case in jeopardy.”

Prosecutors attribute the delay to a transition issue when a joint RCMP/city police unit was disbanded in 2007.

But investigators say it was simply because they set unrealistic deadlines.
