Cpl. Stephane Blanchard says witnesses told police a fire on one boat quickly spread to the other four because of their close proximity and windy conditions.

Blanchard says because of the extent of the damage done to the first boat, which also sank, investigators were unable to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

Police were assisted in the investigation by New Brunswick’s fire marshal’s office.
