Works crews were busy Friday morning as they started pouring concrete for the west abutment of the new South Bridge.
The west abutment is the foundation on land for each bridge end and supports the girders that will support the bridge deck.
The volume of concrete being poured is enough to fill 3½ medium sized swimming pools.
Approximately 35 trucks will be used to transport the concrete, which is placed in the forms through pumps.
