Andrea Engel’s weekdays begin with a 3.30 AM alarm. Then it’s off to the Global Edmonton studios, where she and Shaye Ganam co-anchor the Morning News, our city’s favourite morning newscast. Andrea notes, "There’s nothing better than being Edmontonians’ first look at the information they need to start their day," she notes, "especially when we deliver developing and breaking stories. It’s a privilege to be included in people’s busy lives every morning."

Andrea’s own busy days continue with her two young sons who are less than two years apart. She enjoys speaking with students in her professional capacity, particularly Read-In Week, where she visits several schools each fall. She also hopes to become more of an advocate for Autism Spectrum Disorders. "I’m trying to become an instant expert about this condition, after we found out recently our youngest son has autism. It’s a mysterious disorder that’s on the rise, challenging all facets of a person’s daily life: their ability to communicate, interact and relate to the world around them is affected."

Holding a journalism diploma from MacEwan College, Andrea has worked in various newsrooms in both radio and television stations across the province.

Andrea calls herself a music junkie, with the Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack Johnson being favourites. “My co-hosts must be tired of me singing the lyrics to every 80s song ever written!"

Other interests include scrapbooking, gardening, decorating and reading – everything from Dickens to Dr. Seuss.
