Downtown construction site ordered to backfill due to safety concerns

A downtown construction site that has caused nothing but problems in the community for months is set to be backfilled.

On Friday, the City’s Chief Building Inspector served an order to Lake Placid Properties Inc. to backfill the construction site known as Centuria on the Park on 13th Avenue S.W.

“The Centuria on the Park excavation and construction site is a danger to public safety and adjacent properties,” says Kevin Griffiths, Chief Building Official. “Work to backfill the hole must commence by September 24 and be completed by November 15, 2010. If the owner, Lake Placid, does not comply with the order, The City will take the actions specified in the order on behalf of Lake Placid at their expense.”

This is the third order the City has issued to Lake Placid requiring them to resolve safety concerns at Centuria on the Park.
