TORONTO – Tropical Storm Cosme continues to weaken in the Pacific Ocean.

The cooler waters of the Pacific are choking Cosme, causing it to lose strength. At 2 a.m. EDT Thursday morning, the storm’s winds had dropped to 75 km/h. The storm was moving toward the west-northwest at 26 km/h. The National Hurricane Center in Miami estimates that the storm will make a turn to the west and then lose some speed over the next couple of days.

Large swells from the storm are affecting some of the Pacific coast including Mexico and the southern Baja California peninsula.

Cosme is forecast to become a remnant low late Thursday.

There is another area southeast of Cosme that shows a 20 per cent chance of tropical depression development over the next couple of days. It is currently moving west-northwestward.
