The studios at Global BC played host to many memorable television shows over the past 50 years. Everything from kids shows, game shows, disco dance lessons and even wrestling originated from the station’s studios in Burnaby. Here’s a look at some of the biggest productions and moments in our 50 year history:

Jean Cannem Show

1960 – late 1970’s

The crew used to feast on Mona Brun’s cooking segment.

Pete’s Place

1963 – 1979

Although a kids show, Peter Ralston inserted a lot of inside humour for the crew.

Hot Hands

1970’s

Several stop-tapes as Johnny Winsor’s hands kept getting in the shot as he turned over the playing cards.

Banjo Parlour

1974

With Marty Gillan and who can forget Joani Bye and her sisters.

What’s the Good Word

1970 – 1975

With John Barton. To try to throw John off, the crew put a (let’s just say odd) feed into his desk monitor.

Oompah-pah

1974

Starring Jeff Hyslop.

Rolf Harris

1975

On an opening move our jib took out an entire row of “˜fat albert bulbs’ on the set.

Alan Hamel Show

1976 – 1980

We had to stop the show when singer Jaye P. Morgan flashed Alan.

Alan Thicke Show

1980 – 1983

We taped three to four shows per day with the top rated stars of the day.

Thicke of the Night

1983

Prime Cuts

1983

The wrap party at the Butler’s home in North Van was outrageous and included the stars of Three’s Company and the Love Boat.

Jack Webster Show

1979 – 1987

Pierre Trudeau was probably the most famous guest

Second Honeymoon

1987 – 1988

With our own current Global BC weatherman, Wayne Cox, as host.

Pitfall

1981 – 1982

With Alex Trebek (comedian Jack Carter got his fingers trapped in the elevator mechanism on the show)

All Star Wrestling

1980’s

We all remember the line-up at the front door Tuesdays. And of course Jesse!

BC AM

No floor director or IFB, Ron Morrier took his cues from the flashing cue dot on the top of the picture.

David Bowie

1984

“Serious moonlight” tour. John O’Connor actually showed up with his albums for Bowie to autograph.

Don Harron Show

1984

Whenever we had a few days off (so Don could grow the whiskers) we knew Charlie Farquharson would make an appearance.

The Pope’s visit

1984

Cinderella

BB Beagle

1986

Not quite the Muppets show, but a lot of fun.

Expo 86

1986

Staff coffees at Boston Pizza every night helped ease the long days.

Charles and Diana visit

1986

We were there for the first rumors of pregnancy.

White Tile Christmas

1987

Lingo

1987 – 1988

Michael Reagan hosted. Presidential secret service people around the building and one special day the Stones Throw Pub won’t forget.

Calgary Winter Olympics

1988

I wonder what ever happened to the rental hot tub?

(Secret Lives) aka Dr. Don Dutton Show

1989 – 1991

Doctor Don was called to testify at the OJ Simpson hearing

Santa Claus Parade

2004 – 2009

During the visit of Queen Elizabeth, director Henry Irizawa was invited to meet the Queen
