Known for his quick cuts and his incredible elusiveness, he dazzled fans with his ability to turn nothing into something.
Roberts was a seven-time divisional all-star and a six-time CFL all-star. He led the league in rushing three times — in 2003, 2005 and 2006 — and surpassed the 1,000-yard mark six times in his career. He finished as the Bombers’ all-time leading rusher with 9,987 yards.
In 2008, Roberts was traded to the BC Lions for fellow running back Joe Smith. In B.C., Roberts immediately surpassed the 10,000-yard mark but then suffered a career-ending injury, tearing his achilles tendon. Roberts is the fifth leading rusher all time in CFL history.
He’ll be inducted into the Bombers’ Hall Of Fame on Sept. 18 alongside past president George Graham and media friend Ralph Warrington.
