Park Renamed In Honour Of Hero

10:14:51 AM

Birunthan Nadarajah was remembered as a hero in Scarborough Saturday.
Family, friends and local politicians gathered to remember him as a park was re-named in his honour.
Birunthan was walking with friend Kishoban Birunthan on their way to play soccer in December 2006 when they came upon a pond.
Kishoban attempted to cross it but fell through the thin ice. Birunthan went in after him in an attempt to rescue his friend.
Both boys drowned.
Birunthan’s father Maralitharan Nadarajah faced deportation at the time of the tragedy because his refugee status was declined. The deportation issue has since been resolved.
Wharnsby Park is now officially called Birunthan Park.
