Kelowna prankster gets nine months

KELOWNA — A teenager who videotaped a friend being set on fire in a drunken, dangerous prank in Kelowna, has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

But Joshua McWhirter, 18, walked out of court Thursday after serving six-and-a- half months in custody and getting two and a half months credit for time served.

The 18-year-old victim suffered severe burns to 90 percent of his back when aftershave was poured on him and he was set ablaze last December.

In February, Matthew Sweet-Grant, 20, received an 18-month jail sentence and two years probation after pleading guilty to setting his sleeping friend on fire.
