Man charged with manslaughter after stabbing in northern Alberta

RCMP have arrested a suspect following the death of a man on the Little Red River Cree Nation in northern Alberta on Feb. 19.

Lennox Laboucan, 18, has been charged with manslaughter after the death of a 19-year-old man.

At about 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, officers with the Fox Lake RCMP detachment responded to a reported stabbing at a house on the Little Red River Cree Nation, which is located north of Fort Vermilion, Alta.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit was called in to assist with the investigation.

The victim was known to Laboucan and the incident is believed to be isolated, said RCMP.

Laboucan was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Edmonton Provincial Court on Monday, Feb 24.

The victim’s identity was not released.
