A Canadian National freight train is blocking the rail line near Rivers, causing VIA Rail to suspend service between Winnipeg and Toronto in both directions.
According to a release from VIA, the mechanical failure has delayed the operation of a train enroute from Vancouver to Toronto. The company is now making arrangements to accommodate affected passengers, providing alternate transportation where possible. They have also had to temporarily suspend new ticket sales on all trains along that route.
VIA expects to resume regular operations on the eastbound between Winnipeg and Toronto on Thursday, and on the westbound route between Toronto and Winnipeg on Saturday.
