TORONTO – Calling all armchair astronauts: NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory has released a billion-pixel view of Mars, allowing explorers to roam part of the red planet.

Nearly 900 exposures were taken by cameras aboard the rover Curiosity and combined to show stunning details of Mars. Viewers can zoom in on the 1.3 billion-pixel image and examine the rocky landscape for themselves.

The images were taken between Oct. 5 and Nov. 16, 2012.
