CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department is looking for a few good men and women to bolster its ranks.
It will be accepting new firefighter applications during the month of March for new positions opening up later this year and next.
The Fire Department is looking to hire at least 100 new recruits to compensate for attrition and growth in the city.
“This year we’re going to be breaking ground on four fire stations, next year there are three in the books,” says Brian McAsey, spokesperson for the Fire Department.
“The whole idea is to grow with the city to make sure we have that fire protection and that means hiring firefighters.”
The fire department will be holding two recruitment information sessions, the first one running Tuesday evening at the Multi-Agency Training Centre. The second open house will be held March 8th.
For the first time, the entire application progress will be handled online.
There are also some changes to the minimum qualifications in the selection process.
