Edmonton firefighters kick off annual rooftop campout

A group of Edmonton Firefighters gave up the usual heat of fighting fires on Tuesday in favour of raising money for a good cause.

Fire station 2, in downtown Edmonton, has firefighters camping on the roof. The annual Rooftop Campout Campaign lets firefighters brave the cold in order to raise money for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy. The campout began Tuesday morning and goes until February 25, 2011. Donations will continue to be accepted until April 2nd.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and the Edmonton Firefighters’ Union have been teaming up for this annual fundraiser since 2006. Since the campaign started five years ago they have raised over $250, 000.00 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada. The goal this year is to raise $60,000.00 for the charity.
