Calgary’s longest cab queue planned for Stampede Park

CALGARY- Getting a cab home from the Calgary Stampede will be a lot easier if a city committee approves a plan for a three block taxi queue.

Under the plan, three blocks of the far right lane of northbound Macleod Trail would be turned into a cab queue every night during the Stampede between 9 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The Taxi Limousine Advisory Committee (formerly the Calgary Taxi Commission) will vote on the proposal Friday.

The committee, along with Stampede officials, have been looking at ways to ease congestion in the taxi pickup zones at the north and south gates.

The chair of the advisory committee, Jonathon Campbell, says the pickup zone will make it a lot easier for Stampede-goers to catch a cab, avoiding long waits and busy signals on the phone.

The committee is also looking at additional pickup zones in the downtown area during the Stampede, which runs July 5-14.
