Bear killed in Yoho National Park

CALGARY- A black bear has been hit and killed in Yoho National Park—the second such incident in less than a week.

The adult was struck near the Yoho Ranch on Monday evening, and was found by a conservation specialist.

Parks officials say they are saddened by the loss.

Drivers are reminded to obey speed limits in the park and drive carefully at dusk and dawn, which is the most active time of day for large animals.

On Saturday, a black bear was killed near Banff after being hit by a train.

Parks Canada is currently doing a $1 million study in partnership with Canadian Pacific, to find ways to reduce the number of bear deaths along railroad tracks.
