Witnesses of LRT stabbing asked to come forward

CALGARY – Police are looking for witnesses of an assault and stabbing nearby the Franklin LRT station on Tuesday.

Shortly after 3:30p.m., the man in his early 20’s was walking with a female friend at the Franklin LRT station when he was approached by at least three men. A confrontation occurred at the top of the spiral stairs outside the station and the men began punching the young man. The victim and his friend fled to the bottom of the stairs where he was stabbed by one of the men with an unknown object.

The victim then fled south across the Park & Ride lot where a Calgary Transit driver spotted him and offered to help. The driver called 911 and provided assistance until EMS arrived.

The man was transported to hospital in life threatening condition. He is now in serious but stable condition.

With the assistance of the K-9 Unit, police tracked down five people who were brought in for questioning. All of them have since been released.

Police are now looking for anyone else who may have witnessed the incident or have information relating to the stabbing.
