Thieves make off with equipment for community ice rink

CALGARY – Users of the Sandstone-MacEwan community rink are disappointed after discovering thieves made off with truck-full of their equipment Tuesday night.

The arena’s locked shed was broken into and a snow blower, ice scraper and other equipment was taken.

The theft has outraged rink volunteers and skaters who now fear their outdoor ice surface can’t be properly maintained.

“The community does fundraising and stuff to support kids playing outdoors with an outdoor rink and all of a sudden someone takes it all and probably gets something like 10 cents on the dollar for it,” says Tim Huston, a community volunteer.

Anyone who has any information about the theft is being asked to call police or the Sandstone-MacEwan Community Association.
