Global News Online – Web Producer Global Regina
Reporting to Brent Williamson, News Director at Global Regina the Web Producer will be responsible for morning show and daily content on globalregina.com. She or he will be expected to create and support engaging web and multi-platform content, including text-based, video and interactive online features to ensure that globalregina.com is a must-visit for breaking news, original content and compelling features. She or he will also be expected to assist the Senior Producer and News Director in reaching traffic goals, increasing user engagement, and building relationships with a variety of key internal stakeholders. This position will be based in the Global Regina newsroom in Regina, Saskatchewan.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
* Managing the day-to-day maintenance and related development of both the morning-show microsite and overall news site connected to Global Regina.
* Liaising with local news teams, including web producers, news directors, producers, assignment editors, anchors, reporters and other news professionals to create unique online content.
* Writing and editing copy from television scripts, editing and posting streaming video, working with producers and anchors to creative an interactive environment (including blogs) and helping build a rapport with viewers and website users.
* Planning, creating, editing and uploading compelling and unique web and cross-media content, including breaking news, long-form features, photo- and video-based features, and interactive features.
* Assisting the Senior Producer and local News Director in creating long-term maintenance/growth strategies for the morning show site and globalregina.com.
* Liaising with production artists, project managers and web designers to deliver timely site developments and special projects.
* Working with Senior Producer to ensure special projects are accurately scoped, resourced and budgeted
* Working with Digital Media and broadcast teams to explore new methods of converging online and TV content to create a seamless experience for our audience.
* Learning the various Shaw Media news tools: content management systems, video platforms, photo databases and wire news services.
* Staying informed of local, national and international news.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate would have:
* An expertise in and passion for online journalism
* College or university degree (or equivalent experience), preferably in journalism, radio/television broadcasting or equivalent
* Minimum two years experience in developing online content
* Experience in managing and delivering multiple projects on time and on budget
* Excellent writing, copy editing and substantive editing skills
* Strong working knowledge of multimedia tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, and a familiarity with HTML.
* Diverse content experience across multiple verticals and formats, including digital video, text articles, blogs, social media tools, digital photos.
* Familiarity with Twitter, Facebook and other social media applications, and how they can be used to promote our news website and programming
* Strong working knowledge of FTP programs and understanding of online metrics
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills and experience working with several internal and external stakeholders on various projects.
* Experience working in broadcast news, and in a digital newsroom environment, is an asset.
* Enthusiasm and passion for all forms of news – everything from international events to politics, pop culture, sports and business – with an emphasis on Regina-based news and current affairs, as well as a keen interest in technology and digital media.
* Flexibility in working shifts and weekends when necessary
