CALGARY- Still looking for a Father’s Day gift? If there’s a new dad on your list, a new baby manual could be just what he needs.
The book was produced by the Alberta Father Involvement Initiative, after a similar one proved popular in Ontario. The hook? It’s written like a car manual, to coax dads into reading it.
“There’s some useful information on a ‘dad’s tool kit’, so what kind of a baby bag should you be carrying in terms of supplies when you’re out and about with your newborn,” explains provincial coordinator Patrick Dillon. “Care for breast feeding, we call that ‘fuel consumption’ in the manual, which is that it’s important for dads to be supportive of the mother’s role in breast feeding.”
Other baby/car topics? Fine tuning, fuel consumption and ’24 hour cribside assistance.’
The manuals are being sent out to public health units. If you’re interested in receiving one, to go abdads.ca.
