Part of Kingsway Mall was evacuated on Friday after the wing of the mall that’s home to twenty percent of the stores in the mall flooded.
The main floor of the mall was reportedly left ankle-deep in water after a watermain break at 1:00 on Friday afternoon.
Kingsway administrators said in a written release that they are recruiting cleaners from other shopping centres in the city to help deal with the mess and get the affected stores open again as soon as possible.
“This is a contained situation that is only affecting a small portion of the mall and approximately 80% of our stores are still open for this busy back to school season,” said Brad Merchant, Director, Oxford Properties. “The water main has been shut off and we are working as quickly as possible to get this section of Kingsway open. The safety of our customers and mall staff is our top priority and we will advise as soon as all of Phase 2 is open again.
The flooded part of the mall is expected to be open again by Saturday.
