SAINT JOHN, N.B. – New Brunswick business magnate John E. (Jack) Irving has died at 78 years old.

Irving died earlier today in Saint John after suffering from a brief illness.

The youngest son of Irving Oil founder K.C. Irving, he joined the family business in 1952, where he worked alongside his brother Arthur in Irving Oil.

Following his father’s death in 1992, Irving became director of all Irving businesses.

He was responsible for and managed a number of the companies within the varied Irving enterprises, including Irving construction, engineering, and steel fabrication.
