When the fall civic elections roll around, one name will not be on the ballot. Edmonton’s longest-serving councilor Ron Hayter announced Tuesday he will not be seeking re-election in the coming civic vote.
Hayter has been a mainstay of civic politics since his first election in 1971. He has served over 30 years as councilor, with a six year break between 1995 and 2001.
In 11 terms Hayter has been part of almost every major decision council has made, including the beginning of the LRT construction.
