Two Calgary business men donated an odd item to the Mustard Seed, Tuesday morning, men’s underwear.
The pair, Brent King and Robb Price, who call their campaign GotGinch, are in their second year of driving across the country in their underwear stuffed RV.
King wanted to help out his community in some way, so he contacted the Mustard Seed and asked them what they needed, and was surprised to learn that it was men’s undergarments.
"They told me that most donations are used clothing, but used underwear isn’t appropriate so many people do without. I thought maybe we could do something about that."
The tour starts in Vancouver hits 10 cities along the way, and ends in Halifax. In total they deliver around 300,000 briefs which are stuffed into the RV at the beginning of the trip.
"After Regina we get access to the (RV’s) bathroom and fridge, so we’re looking forward to that," King joked.
As an addition to this years tour Price has also set up a website, www.delivergood.org, that allows people to donate without having to leave their homes.
"It allows people to get online and do what I’ve done but without having to drive across the country," King said.
The underwear will be made available via the Mustard Seed’s personal assistance center, says its executive director Sam Breakey.
"It’s a dignity issue," he said. "Most of us go to our drawers in the morning and find something clean to wear and we have a fresh start. Someone who is living on the street doesn’t have a fresh start every day."
The 3,000 briefs that were delivered on Tuesday are expected to last about 3 months, said Breakey.
Price and King still have 10 days and seven cities until their underwear filled tighty-whitey flag waving RV is empty.
