New car sales, manufacturing shipments up in Saskatchewan

There is more positive news for Saskatchewan’s economy.

New vehicle sales were up 33.6 per cent in February from the year before, which is the third highest increase in the country. Manufacturing shipments improved slightly over the last year by 0.7 per cent. Saskatchewan ranked sixth in Canada.

Enterprise Saskatchewan Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said the increases are “small but positive improvements that are heading in the right direction.”

“The decision to manage with cautious optimism will ensure the improvements continue on a steady, positive basis,” Cheveldayoff said.

Sales of new vehicles are up 8.5 per cent between January and February 2010. During the same time period manufacturing shipments improved by 1.9 per cent, making it the second highest increase in the country.
